Big Creek Campground is located 6 miles from the west entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park. This family campground is nestled in large first and second growth of pine, fir and cedar trees. A small stream runs through the campground for swimming and brook trout can be found for the fisherman. Many outdoor activities include a trail for horses, trail bikes and foot traffic to the top of the mountain for a days outing.
Big Creek is probably best known for its location since many of the campers from the Puget Sound area headed to Mt. Rainier National Park pass by as they approach the southwestern Nisqually entrance of the park off state highway 706. The campground serves as a perfect overflow area for the National Park or for those who would prefer to avoid driving the curvy roads of the Park with their RVs. It’s easy to park and camp at Big Creek. It is also close to the small town of Ashford where you can stock up with supplies
